US Gymnast Paul Hamm Withdraws From Olympics
Hamm broke his right hand two months ago at the National Championships, which he said that it did not heal enough to make him fit for the tournament. He notified his withdrwal from the Olympics to USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee on Monday.
He is still feeling pain in his right hand, but the bigger concern could be the strained rotator cuff in his left shoulder that made training last week "a disaster."
"For my comeback to be successful, I needed to make continuous progress and have no setbacks ...The time frame I was given was extremely short. ... This has been hardest decision I've ever had to make, but I have too much respect for the Olympics and my team to continue on when I know the best thing for everyone is for me to step aside." - Paul Hamm.
Raj Bhavsar, who also was an alternate in 2004, will take Hamm's spot.
German Super Cup : Bayern Munich -1 vs Borrussia Dortmund -2
Last years German double winners, Bayern Munich, were embarrassed to lose new coach Jurgen Klinsmann's first chance of a trophy yesterday.
They were beaten 2-1 by Borrussia Dortmund, who gained revenge for their narrow defeat in the Cup Final last season.
Dortmund took control in a lively first half when they scored twice within five minutes after half-an-hours play. Jakub Blaszczykowski scored the first from Mladen Petric's pass, and the advantage was doubled just four minutes later when Tamas Hajnal's 20-yard free-kick gave Bayern keeper Michael Rensing no chance.
In the second half, Klinsmann made five changes, and they finally pulled one back through substitute Mehmet Ekici, but they couldn't improve on that.
Munich were missing Ribery, who was badly injured in the Euro2008 tournament, but with Podolski, Klose, Toni, Schweinsteiger et al on the pitch, would have expected a better showing than that.
Tributes paid to Scots rugby player Gordon Mackay
Former Scotland captain Bulloch claimed Mackay, who had a solitary Under-21 cap, one of the best players never to have won full honours.
Mackay, who had been coaching Glasgow Accies, launched his career at Glasgow Academy and joined Accies, before a move to Stirling County and then France.
Bulloch said: "Gordon's career spanned the transition between amateur and professional rugby and I don't think his talents were fully rewarded.
"I can't recall hearing anybody saying anything negative about him and I was totally shattered when I heard the terrible news.
"My heart goes out to his wife and their two young children."
Logan added: "I played alongside 'Scnozz' both for Stirling County and Glasgow and he was a real fun guy.
"There aren't that many larger than life individuals in rugby in the professional era. He was one of them however."

Formula 1 Sex-scandal: Max Mosley Wins Civil Suit Against The News Of The World Publication
Mosley's legal team claimed the tabloid overstepped their boundaries illegally published private sexual material and wrongfully infused connotations that such S&M acts were Nazi themed.
In a statement issued by presiding Mr. Justice Eady, no reasonable evidence was found to support the publication's written accusations that Mosley's sexual activities were an "enactment of Nazi behaviour or adoption of any of its attitudes" or a mockery of Holocaust victims.
"I decided that the claimant had a reasonable expectation of privacy in relation to sexual activities -- albeit unconventional -- carried on between consenting adults on private property," Justice Eady stated.
Furthermore he writes: "There was bondage, beating and domination which seem to be typical of S&M behaviour. But there was no public interest or other justification for the clandestine recording, for the publication of the resulting information and still photographs, or for the placing of the video extracts on the News of the World website -- all of this on a massive scale."
Mosley was denied punitive exemplary damages and still maintains his sexual acts with five prostitutes was consensual and in no way Nazi themed.
News of the World editor Colin Myler adamantly stood by his newspaper staff and stated outside of court, "The News of the World will remain committed to fighting for its readers' right to know." Myler continued to say the story was of "legitimate public interest and one that I believe was legitimately published."
Prior to this court ruling, Mosley was given a majority vote of confidence by members of Formula 1's governing body, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), to retain his position as president.
