Former Spain coach and currently boss at Fenerbahce, Luis Aragones was chosen the World's best National Coach 2008 by the Internationa Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

The 70-year-old coach took a 107 point lead over the coach standing second, Dutchman Guus Hiddink, at Russia National Team.

Turkish coach Fatih Terim comes third. His team shared the European Championship’s bronze with Russia. The best football coaches of 2008 will receive their awards on March 16th in France.

Galatasaray Signs Czech striker Milan Baros

Defending Turkish football champion Galatasaray has signed Czech striker Milan Baros from Lyon.

The 27-year-old Baros agreed to a three year contract, the Istanbul-based club said on its Web site Tuesday. He was expected to join the team on Thursday.

It was not clear how much Galatasaray would pay French club Lyon as a transfer fee.

Baros joined Lyon in 2007 after five years in the Premier League with Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The Harry Kewell - Galatasaray Mess

Harry Kewell signing up for Galatasaray seems to have created quite a ripple in the world wide web. My last post was obviously caused by a random feeling of nostalgia in me. However, it seems that incurred a similar yet different feeling to Silverback. It is his comment that made me sit back and think a while about my own words.

Not sure where you get your info from but I don't know of any Leeds fans who are 'stunned' and I live in Leeds.

Clubs are not responsible for the actions of the hooligan element of their fans so why would an incident from 8 years ago stop Kewell signing for Galatasaray when his future obviously did not lie with Liverpool.

I worked for a long time with the brother of one of those killed. I read about Kewell moving to Turkey and the incident never even entered MY mind until reading this post. Sounds more like making assumptions and stirring up trouble to me.

Good luck to him as he'll need it in Turkey without the need to mention old history.

I did a bit of research and it was my turn to get "stunned" to see several newsflashes coming up alomost every hour which shouts out various news about Harry Kewell signing up for Galatasaray. According to Guardian.co.uk : agent denies Galatasaray deal (posted 4 hours ago), according to ABC Online, Australia: Kewell headed to Turkey, not Beijing (posted 7 hours ago) and according to AFP Google: Kewell misses Olympics to sign with Galatasaray (posted 5 hours ago).

In this digital age of open journalism, rumours and news seem to have mingled up obscuring a clear vision. My post was not to hurt any sentiments or directed to remind some painful past. Neither was it intended to stir up trouble. Even I wish good luck to Harry Kewell and thank Silverback for opening my eyes and reminding me of responsibilities as a blogger in the platform of open journalism.

Leeds Stunned By Harry Kewell's Shock Signing For Galatasaray

Former Leeds United and Liverpool striker, Australian Harry Kewell has decided to sign for Turkish club Galatasaray. Galatasaray announced that Kewell has signed a 3-year-deal with the club.


But this news has stunned Leeds fans because two Leeds fans - Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight - were stabbed to death by Turkish football hooligans on the eve of the 2000 UEFA Cup semi-final first leg against Galatasaray. Kewell played in that match which went ahead despite the tragedy - the 2-0 defeat immaterial to Leeds and their fans who still remember the murders of Loftus and Speight with deep sadness.

Turkey's Goalkeeper Rüştü Reçber Retires: His Career History

Turkey's golakeeper Rüştü Reçber retires after his illustrious career. He made 114 appearances for Turkey. Rüştü replaced Turkey's number one goalkeeper Volkan Demirel in Euro 2008 against Croatia. His last match was the semifinal in Euro 2008 against Germany where Turkey lost 2-3.

Euro 2008: Nihat Kahveci Of Turkey Will Miss The Rest Of Euro 2008

Turkey super-striker and captain Nihat Kahveci will miss the rest of the Euro 2008 due to injury, the Turkish Football Association (TFF) has announced.

The Turkey captain was already ruled out of Turkey's semi-final against Germany in Basel on Wednesday after he sustained a thigh injury in the quarter-final win over Croatia.

The Association confirmed that he will play no further part in the tournament.

Nihat Kahveci was captaining the side in the absence of injured Emre Belozoglu. Nihat left Turkey's base in Vienna and will return home to Spain.

Euro 2008: Turkey's Volkan Demirel Suspended By UEFA For Two Matches

Volkan Demirel, Turkey's number one goalkeeper will be out for next two matches of Euro 2008. This means Volkan will miss Turkey's quarterfinal match against Croatia next Friday.

This came after UEFA's disciplinary committee handed him a two-game ban for shoving Jan Koller off the ball late against Czech Republic. Volkan's behaviour in the field alomost cost Turkey against Czech Republic, given that Turkey had already used all their 3 substitutes and thus had to compete the match with a filed player in goal.

Assuming that Turkey win against Croatia on Friday, Volkan will still miss the semifinal against the winner of Germany and Portugal.


35-year-old Rüştü Reçber will play against Croatia on Friday.

I simply like Rüştü Reçber..he is a superb goalkeeper..seen him in World Cup 2002.

Euro 2008: Turkey To Miss Emre Gungor For Euro 2008?

Turkey central defender Emre Gungor has a calf strain and may miss the rest of Euro 2008.

Emre is having a scan later on Monday and a decision will be made once the results are known, coach Fatih Terim told a news conference.

Turkey Defeats Finland 2-0 in a Warm-up

Ahead of Euro 2008, Turkey displayed some good and impressive football to beat Finland 2-0 in a friendly.

Goals were scored by Tuncay Sanli and Semih Senturk. Semih Senturk is the leading goal scorer in the Turkish Championship, while Tuncay Sanli plays for English side Middlesbrough.

In the previous two friendlies, Turkey defeated Slovakia 1-0 and lost to Uruguay 2-3.
