Serbia Takes 4-0 Lead Over Japan in Fed Cup

Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic won their reverse singles Sunday as Serbia took an insurmountable 4-0 lead over Japan in the first round of the Fed Cup's World Group II.

Janovic beat Ai Sugiyama 6-3, 6-2, before Ivanovic cruised past Ayumi Morita, 6-1, 6-2.


"I was a bit nervous as this was the crucial point in the tie," said Jankovic, who dropped from first to third in the WTA rankings after an early exit at the Australian Open last month.


Ivanovic, another former No. 1, needed just over an hour to dispatch the 18-year-old Morita in the second singles.

60kg Free Style Wrestling : India's Yogeshwar Dutt Loses To Kenichi Yumoto Of Japan

Another Olympic medal slipped out of India's wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt missed his lead in the third and final round to lose the wrestling quarterfinal tie of the 60kg free style category against Kenichi Yumoto of Japan.

Dutt made a good start to his bout winning the first round 1-0 but Kenichi Yumoto bounced back to win the second, earning 4 points to draw parity.


Yogeshwar Dutt again seized the initiative early in the decisive third round, going ahead 1-0 but failed to hold on to the lead in the last 10 seconds and gave away two match-winning points to his opponent to lose 2-1.

Earlier in the day, Dutt had beaten Kazakhstan's Baurzhan Orazgaliyeb 3-1.

Masahi Oguro Joins J-League Club Tokyo Verdy From Torino

Former Japan international Masahi Oguro has returned from Serie-A to join J-league club Tokyo Verdy. His contract eneded in June and Serie-A club Torino released him.

Oguro joined Torino in 2006 after a season in France with Grenoble.

"I'll try to score as many goals as I can," Oguro told reporters in the Japanese capital.

Verdy, back in the top flight after winning promotion last season, are struggling down in 14th place in the J-League.

Yoshito Okubo Of Japan Banned For Three Games by FIFA

Striker Yoshito Okubo of Japan has been banned for 3 games by FIFA after being sent off for violent conduct against Oman in a World cup qualifier match in Muscat. Japan drew with Oman 1-1 in that match.

Okubo received a straight red card in that match after he kicked Oman's goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi while both players were on the ground.

FIFA has also fine the Japan Football Association 5,000 Swiss francs ($4,840) for the offence.

"I'm disappointed but I am the one who is most to blame," said Okubo.

Japan Women Downs Australia 3-0

Australian women's soccer team have suffered a 0-3 defeat to Japan at the Asian Cup on Sunday. The loss had made the Matildas (Australian Women's Soccer Team) to be placed overall 4th in the competition.
Yuki Nagasato socred in the 17th minute, Aya Miyama sored from a free kick in the 79th minute and Homare Sawa scored in the 87th minute.

Japan Coach Calls Okubo "Idiot"

"What the hell were you doing?"..."You idiot",..these were the exact words told by Japan coach Takeshi Okada to Yoshito Okubo, when he received a red card in 1-1 draw of Japan against Oman.

Yoshito Okubo who plays for Vissel Kobe, got his red card, when he made horrible tackle om Oman goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi.

This draw has made Japan positioned second in Group 2 with seven points from 4 games.

Japan wins KIRIN CUP

Japan drew with Paraguay 0-0, but the results were good enough for Japan to win the 3nation Kirin Cup 2008. Japan beat Ivory Coast 1-0 and Paraguay drew 1-1 with Ivory Coast in the opening match. 1 win 1 draw helped Japan to win the tournament.
