Baby Blacks rugby star Robert Hickland, 17, has died from severe neck injuries sustained while playing last month.
This New Zealand under-17 representative was playing for Feilding High School's first 15 against Rathkeale College 1st 15 on June 28 when he broke his neck in a tackle. He was taken to Christchurch's Burwood Hospital where he underwent operations and appeared to be improving before losing the fight.
Feilding coach Rick Francis had earlier praised Robert, and described him as a future All Black, was a rare talent.
My deepest condolence to Robert's family. Rugby World has missed a star in the making. May his soul Rest In Peace.
